Within the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), regional transportation planning is done by transportation planners in the twelve Caltrans’ district offices and in the Office of Regional and Interagency Planning, located within the Division of Transportation Planning (DOTP) at Headquarters, Sacramento.
The focus is the Department's interaction with the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (RTPAs) in regard to Overall Work Programs (OWPs) and Regional Transportation Plans (RTPs), with emphasis on monitoring activities and programs paid for with ORIP-administered transportation planning funds: federal Consolidated Planning Grant (CPG), FHWA Partnership Planning Grants, FTA 5304 Transit Planning Grants, and Regional Blueprint Planning Grants. Along with state transportation funds, such as Rural Planning Assistance (RPA).
The Regional Transportation Planning Listserv is a tool to facilitate communication and information between the MPOs/RTPAs and Caltrans Regional Planning. We request that you limit your questions and comments to topics relevant to the regional transportation planning process, such as the topics discussed above. The goal is to provide the most up to date information on topics that all of the MPOs/RTPAs and Caltrans can collaborate on.
