Dear Construction Subscriber,

You are receiving this message from the Division of Construction
Publications Unit because you have subscribed to our Construction Manual
and other publications updates.

We invite your review of and feedback for draft revisions to Construction
Manual Sections 4-72, 4-74, 4-80, 4-81, 4-82, 4-84, 4-85, 4-86, 4-94, and
4-95. Please comment by following the directions in the "How to Comment"
section of the website by Monday, August 13, 2012.

Manual sections have been revised as a result of Standard Specification,
policy, and procedural changes and may contain updated language,
information, corrections, formatting, and references. Bracketed Standard
Specification section numbers refer to the 2006 Standard Specifications.
Changes have been tracked in color and lines that are located in the margin
area indicate text to be added, deleted, moved, or corrected. At this time,
please disregard pagination, formatting, and missing section sidebars.

Draft revised sections and the section summaries below are posted on our

Section 4-72, “Slope Protection”
   Updates references to align with 2010 Standard Specifications.


   Reorganized to accommodate new slope protection items within 2010
      Standard Specifications.


   Updates reference to "Caltrans Bank and Shore Protection Committee."


Section 4-74, “Pumping Equipment and Controls”

   Updates references to align with 2010 Standard Specifications.


   Changed title of section from “Pumping Plant Equipment.”


   Changes “working drawing” to “shop drawing.”


Section 4-80, “Fences”

   Updates reference to align with 2010 Standard Specifications.


   Provided Standard Specifications reference for Type ESA temporary fence.


Section 4-81, “Monuments”

   Updates reference to align with 2010 Standard Specifications.


Section 4-82, “Markers and Delineators”

   Updates the requirement that listed pavement markers must be on the
      authorized materials list for signing and delineation materials.


Section 4-84, “Traffic Stripes and Pavement Markings”

   Updates the requirement that all materials listed must be on the
      authorized materials list for signing and delineation materials.


   Updates section to follow 2010 Standard Specifications.


Section 4-85, “Pavement Markers”

   Removes the requirement that only bituminous adhesive is permitted when
      moving lane closures are used for placement of pavement markers.


   Updates the requirement that listed pavement markers must be on the
      authorized materials list for signing and delineation material.


Section 4-86, “Electrical Systems”

   Updates references to align with 2010 Standard Specifications.


   Changes title of section from “Signal, Lighting, and Electrical
      Systems.”


   Deletes reference to specific Department-furnished materials (such as
      signs, lamps, light emitting diodes, signal controllers, and
      cabinets).


   Modifies 4-8603A, “Foundations,” for cross references to Traffic Manual
      and Standard Plans.


   Adds new Section 4-8604, “Contract Administration,” which describes what
      the resident engineer must do to execute the project.


   Changed Section 4-8604, “Measurement and Payment,” to Section 4-8605.


Section 4-94, “Asphaltic Emulsions”

   Updates references to align with 2010 Standard Specifications.


   Adds payment guidance.


   Changes SI units to US customary units.


   Updates certificate of compliance information.


   Notes California Test Methods requirement.


Section 4-95, “Epoxy”

   Updates terminology (e.g. concrete pavement, etc.).


   Adds "sealing inductive loops" as one application using epoxy material.


   Revises measurement and payment section to correspond with 2010 Standard
      Specifications (i.e., no separate item payment for epoxy).
