Dear Construction Subscriber,

We have posted Construction Policy Bulletin 12-3, "Pavement Safety Edge,"
and its attachments on our website:

		 http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/construc/manual2001/CPBindex.HTM

This bulletin announces new specifications, standard plans, and procedures
for the safety edge and applies to both asphalt and concrete pavement. The
FHWA is working with states as part of their "Every Day Counts" initiative
to implement safer shaping of the edge of pavement to 30 degrees unless the
pavement overlay is less than 0.05 feet in thickness or at excluded areas
shown on new Standard Plan sheets. Implementation of the safety edge by
change order on going projects is not required and there will not be a
separate pay item.
