Dear Subscriber,

We have posted Construction Procedure Directive 13-10, "Implementation of
Automated Machine Guidance for Ongoing Projects," on our website:

   http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/construc/CPDirectives/cpdindex.htm

This directive provides guidance and allows for the resident engineer to
issue a change order when a contractor proposes to use automated machine
guidance (AMG) on a project and requests electronic design data. AMG is a
technology that uses positioning devices such as global navigation
satellite systems, total stations, or rotating laser levels and operated
equipment such as bulldozers, scrapers, blades, loaders, or paving machines
with an onboard computer and other accessories to accurately guide the
equipment. The computer display assists the operator in performing grading
or paving operations with increased safety, efficiency, and accuracy. The
project engineer may have developed the electronic design data that can be
used with AMG. If the electronic design data is not available from the
project engineer, the contractor can still generate the electronic design
data from information on the project plans.
